Nursing Program Information

Meeting with an advisor ensures you understand course criteria, the fingerprinting process, program admission process, LNA guidance, and GPA expectations. Nursing admission criteria are subject to change, so students are encouraged to see an advisor every term to make sure they are on track. Additionally, attending a Nursing Application Information Session or meeting with someone from the Nursing Department is highly recommended for your nursing application.

Nursing students are in the classroom for up to 8 hours per week and up to 12 hours per week in skills/simulation lab and/or clinical. In addition, students can expect up to 16 hours per week of study preparation. Additional class and study time is needed if students have co-requisites to complete or enrolled in CEP (Concurrent Enrollment Program). Please ensure you are able to make this commitment. It is important to understand that the nursing program is not a part-time commitment, but many students work part-time while in the program. 

While most of the clinical facilities are located within Flagstaff, students may be required to travel to clinical sites outside Flagstaff. Expenses associated with travel are the student's responsibility, as they must provide their own transportation to clinical.

Yes, it is strongly encouraged to purchase a laptop computer for the nursing program, as textbooks and assignments are web-based. All communication with faculty and nursing administration is required through CCC email or Canvas. Microsoft Office programs (Word and PowerPoint) as well as access to Google Drive are essential.

Visit the AZ DPS website. Select “Apply for a Card” and choose Online Application. Create a portal account, select the “services” link at the top, select “fingerprint clearance card”. Log back into your portal account and visit the message center. You will receive a message with instructions on the next step, which is obtaining your fingerprints. You must get your fingerprints completed for the application to be processed.

You need a non-IVP card. Please choose “Health Science Student & Clinical Assistant” for the purpose of application. 

CCC's nursing program collaborates with external organizations to offer essential clinical opportunities, which necessitate compliance with their COVID-19 vaccination policies. Thus, current policies mandate proof of full vaccination status for enrollment in our nursing program. Unvaccinated individuals face an increased risk of contracting COVID-19, potentially leading to the emergence of new variants and jeopardizing vulnerable groups, including hospitalized patients, nursing home residents, healthcare professionals, and immunocompromised peers. However, students may request a declination form if they opt not to receive the vaccine or cannot do so for medical or religious reasons, available by contacting the nursing department

The nursing program admits up to 20 students to begin each Fall semester and 20 students to begin each Spring semester.

Please reference the Application Tip Sheet as well as the Application Instructions posted on this website in detail as well as meet with your advisor to determine what you need with your application. Below are the key points:

• Pre-requisite courses completed: ENG 101, ENG 102, MAT 140 (or higher), BIO 201, BIO 202, and CHM 130
• Grade of “C” or higher in all pre-requisite courses
• Pre-requisite grade point average of 3.0 on a four-point scale or higher
• A minimum of 67.1% on TEAS test taken after October 1^st for March 1^st deadline
• LNA license or completion of a registered Nursing Assistant Program in the semester immediately preceding the application deadline (e.g. Fall semester for March deadline)
• The following necessary attachments with your application:

1. Unofficial Transcripts
2. ATI TEAS Test results
3. LNA License verification from the Arizona Board of Nursing or Certificate of Completion from a registered Nursing Assistant Program in the semester immediately preceding the application deadline.

Points are awarded based on the following 5 categories. The points are totaled and ranked from highest to lowest, and the top students will be accepted into the program (up to 20 students each application cycle). Entrance into the nursing program is competitive, and there is no waiting list. Applicants with completed applications who are not selected for a cycle are invited to reapply for admission and their application will be awarded additional points. • GPA in pre-requisite courses
• ATI TEAS score.
• Five (5) or more credits taken at CCC.
• 40 hours of direct patient care (through employment, volunteer work, or fulfilling the clinical requirement in a Nursing Assistant course) in the past six months.
• Qualified applicant in the previous cycle

CCC’s nursing program requires that applicants take the ATI TEAS exam before applying to the nursing program, and the TEAS test must be taken within five months of the application deadline (between October 1 and March 1 for a March 1 deadline). 

The test will be offered in the months prior to the application deadline at CCC.  Please see above for the ATI TEAS testing dates.

ATI TEAS scores from other institutions are also accepted with the nursing program application. Students can take the TEAS test as many times as they are allowed by ATI in addition to/in lieu of the attempts on CCC campus. However, this is a separate registration process through the ATI TEAS website and must be scheduled at the ATI Testing Webpage. Please visit the website for fees and more information.

Test Prep: Materials are available to prepare for the exam. Those items can be found by visiting the ATI TEAS Test Prep Webpage.

1. Co-requisite Criterion Eliminated on Matrix: We have eliminated the criterion for having co-requisites completed, and so the total number of points on the criteria matrix is 525 instead of 535. Students will not see a place to enter their co-requisites on the application, and this information will be gathered after an offer of admission.
   
   
2. LNA proof: We are still either requiring an active Arizona LNA license or completion of a Nursing Assistant course the semester immediately prior to application with certificate of completion. In the previous cycles, we have required that students submit proof of a completed application and provide proof through supporting documents, but we are only requiring that certificate of completion. Remember, this is only for students who have completed their LNA training the semester immediately prior to the application (e.g. Fall semester for March application). The Nursing Assistant course cannot be in progress at the time of application. A valid LNA license is still a requirement to enroll in the nursing program, and therefore we still strongly recommend that students submit the LNA application as soon as possible, given variable response times from the AZ Board of Nursing.
   
   
3. TEAS test: The national program average for the TEAS test has increased to 67.1% from 66.1%, and it is therefore our new threshold for our program.
   
   
4. DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card: We are no longer requiring the DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card to be provided with your application, but it is still a requirement to be submitted when you provide your documents to enroll.
   
   
5. Healthcare Verification Form: this form has been made easier to complete and may be entered by the applicant and then signed by the supervisor or clinical instructor. Please upload the most recent form found on our website.
